Privacy Policy
The short version: Rainbow’s End Watch Bill sends nothing to us, and nothing anywhere. Your voyages, crew and handovers stay on your device. The plan leaves it only as a code on your screen that a crew member scans in person, or as a watch bill you print.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you put into Rainbow’s End Watch Bill — the voyage and the boat’s names, the dates and ship’s time, the crew’s names and what each is trained for, the rotation, the swaps and their reasons, the standing orders, every handover, and which crew phones have scanned which version — is stored in the app’s own storage on your device. The app has no server of ours and no account system.
Deleting a voyage, or the app, deletes this data from the device. If you back up your device, your backup may include the app’s data like any other app’s; backups are managed by Apple under Apple’s terms, and we never see them.
The codes
The plan passes to crew phones as a QR code shown on your screen. It carries the voyage’s name, the boat’s name, the dates and ship’s time, the crew’s names and training, the rotation, the swaps and the standing orders. It goes only to a phone that scans your screen. A crew phone’s code, which you scan back, carries which crew member it is, which version it holds, a random id made on that phone, and whether and how far ahead its alarms are set. Nothing is sent over a network.
The camera
The camera is used only to scan a crew phone’s code. The app asks for it, through the system’s own prompt, the first time you tap to scan. Nothing the camera sees is kept.
Alarms and notifications
Wake calls and reminders are set on the device itself, through iOS. The app asks for alarms and notifications, through the system’s own prompts, when you tap Continue on Alarms on this device. Nothing about them leaves the device.
Printing
The watch bill is made on your device and handed to the system’s print sheet only when you tap Print. Where it goes from there is your choice. We never see it.
What the app does not do
Rainbow’s End Watch Bill contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking of any kind, and no third-party data-collection software. It makes no network requests. It does not read your location, your contacts, your photos or anything else on your device.
Purchases
Buying the app is handled entirely by the App Store. We receive no payment details, no card numbers, and no personal information from your purchase.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app ever changes any of the above, this policy will be updated first, with the effective date above revised, and the change described here.
