What it does
- Your boats, rememberedEnter a vessel once and she’s saved. Keep as many boats as you sail and switch between them with a tap. New trip keeps the boat, the people, and the contacts, and clears the itinerary.
- What a search asks forModeled on the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s float plan form: hull colors and the features seen from the air, radios and MMSI, distress signals, EPIRB and PLB numbers, food and water aboard, everyone aboard, and the tow vehicle and where it’s parked.
- Where you’re boundThe itinerary leg by leg, with a check-in time for each stop. Then your shore contacts in calling order, and one deadline after which you are overdue.
- A PDF made to be sentTap Share PDF and pick Mail or Messages. Empty fields stay off the page.
- Built to be usedEvery button, field, and checkbox is sized for a wet thumb, and the text grows with your iPhone’s text size setting.
Why it’s different
- A guide for the person ashoreThe PDF opens with a boxed guide addressed to whoever holds it. Call the boat, then each contact in order, then the rescue authority, with your numbers filled in. Report only what you know. Nobody has to search a form while worried.
- The boat is filled in onceHer sections save with her, so a new trip is the itinerary and the overdue time.
- Offline and privateNo account, no server of ours, no tracking, no location. Nothing you enter leaves your device unless you send it yourself.
We built it aboard our ketch Rainbow, for the trips when someone ashore is waiting to hear from us.
What it won’t do
- It won’t file anything with the Coast Guard. A float plan goes to a person ashore.
- It won’t send anything by itself. You choose who gets the plan.
- It won’t use your location. Every place in your plan is one you typed.
- It won’t ask for an account or a subscription.
A float plan works only if someone ashore has it. Tell them if plans change, and tell them when you’re home. Rainbow’s End Float Plan is an aid to seamanship, not a substitute for the skipper’s judgment.
